On September 10, 2022, I performed HOME!
asking what home means when belonging lives between memory, body, land, and distance.
Six days later, Mahsa Jina Amini was killed, and the streets of Iran rose with the voices of women:
Woman. Life. Freedom.
زن، زندگی، آزادی
Suddenly, HOME! carried a different weight.
Home was no longer only a place remembered or longed for.
It became a body demanding freedom.
A voice refusing silence.
A homeland carried by those within it, and by those of us watching, grieving, and resisting from afar.
This performance happened before the uprising, but today I cannot watch it without feeling everything that came after.
For Jina.
For every woman who turned her body into resistance.
For a home that has not yet become free.
