Man. You got me on that first slide but I had to give you a chance. By the last slide I had goosebumps. Absolutely nailed it. This is possibly the most inspiring thing about human > AI I’ve read in a while for artists. Thank you. 💖💖

@cheltraynor I do genuinely think it's great that you decided on your own not to use AI for that purpose anymore. It's good that you saw it was having a negative effect and you did something about it. But I just really want you to understand the *why* behind it all. It's not just that the AI causes you to stop thinking for yourself, which is of course true. But it's also because you were outsourcing your thinking to something that is not actually capable of independent thought itself. An LLM is essentially a set of code that is capable of nothing more than clumsily jamming together bits and pieces of stolen art and p*rnography. It cannot have a valid opinion on your art because it does not form its own opinions

Why would you ask a machine-- which cannot *actually* see, feel, or think-- to tell you how to draw in the first place? Art is subjective, deeply personal. It's supposed to be an outlet for self-expression, a way for our subconscious to communicate with ourself and the world. Getting "better" at drawing is nice, but only insofar as it allows you to more accurately create the things you're trying to express. Art is not a sport. It is not a contest with a finish line. There are no winners and losers, no rules that actually NEED to be obeyed. There is no reason whatsoever for a large language model-- a non-feeling THING which literally just regurgitates stolen text and gives you the most statistically likely, middle-of-the-road reply it has calculated will keep you engaged-- to be a part of your creative process in ANY capacity. Your art belonhs to you. The second you give up any part of that is the second you give up being an artist. Read up on how AI actually works, and the immense danger of the technology, and hopefully you'll understand what I'm trying to say

I'm glad you've reached these conclusions and have such meaningful sources of inspiration. On the internet where many of us are consumed with being the best in technical terms, this is a breath of fresh air 😃

Spot on 💪. I think AI is useful for giving information, not for creativity. My friends suggest me to use ChatGPT for better english communication. But I like to type writing myself even though I know my english aren’t that great. I feel if I rely too much on AI, I can’t come up with my own thoughts when communicating in the future.

I personally think about using CGPT as a FAQ if anything, basically just for learning, streamlining and troubleshooting. If I don't know how to use a tool, why something doesn't work or why I can't do x, y or z, it's the go to. But everything else has to come from yours truly, in an attempt of matching the original idea in my mind. Oddly enough sometimes GPT didn't even cut it for my larger ideas, which just lead to me taking a few days to study various videos and courses to understand the workflow I could follow to get where I wanted. About a year later and I'm still learning and taking notes for both Blender and CSP, but I'm more than happy that my reliance on AI doesn't go beyond, why my hotkeys aren't working lol XD I've even had friends and family ask me why I don't use AI more in my workflow and despite me giving the usual AI BAD speech, TBH the thing that always pops in my head is seeing my old art teachers just work on something amazing in class and just getting in the zone... That feeling is amazing, and AI can never take that from me...

Oh, this post is so useful and important. Everything you say is true!😢 I faced the same problem and came to the same idea. It's great to know I'm not the only one thinking this. 🥰 Thanks for this great post!

As someone who is very against AI.... I'm proud of you and everyone else here in the comments who had the real strength it takes to examine what AI was doing to them and knew they were better. It gives me hope. Aesthetics are nothing without human intention. 🥲 Thank you for posting this for everyone!!
