A little look inside my head from being pregnant for 6+ months now. Here are 2 pictures, only one year apart.
In the first, I had just finished tv-show No Way Back. Ten days of survival, and my body had given almost everything it had.
In the second, today, I am more than 6 months pregnant. I have gained 10 kg and I’m heavier than I have ever been. The body is an insane machine, isn’t it?
I thought being proud of this pregnant body would come naturally. It hasn’t. I hasn’t felt any good, I have just felt super fat and insecure. And what surprises me most is how easy it was to be proud of the skinny one a year ago and how hard it is for me to feel the same thing of this body today. The skinny body was super unhealthy and surviving and the pregnant body is growing a human. Yet the skinny one made me less insecure than my pregnant body.
Weird right?
Maybe that insecure voice was planted years ago, in the body fat-percentage tests at clubs? In coaches/clubs who used the fat-percentage against me after a bad game? The fat-tests stopped but apparently the voice stayed.
Now I’m learning to gain that confidence again. At a body that, without asking anything of me, is building a whole FREAKING NEW person. A heartbeat. Tiny lungs. Ten little fingers. NAILS.
Maybe it would be easier for all of us, women and men, (and especially football clubs, doctors and coaches) if we noticed strength before shape. If we stopped measuring athletes fat percentage and just care about how they perform?
Because this body, my body, bigger than ever, might be the closest to perfect it has ever been.
