a second home i never saw coming, resided by an abundance of kind and curious individuals, who poured their warmth, generosity, passion and magic top-full and overflowing into my cup, and with endless gratitude i’ve savoured every drop : bottle now finally run dry, the bittersweet memories and sensations still linger, an irremovable wine-stain on the rim that with closed eyes and a deep enough breath i can smell it’s chocolate-scented perfume still, and i’m back
back to a smirk, a stare, an embrace, or a hand extended through the dark
back to an ink-spot, a lee, a baker, or a miller
back to a feather, a letter, a locket, or a ring
back to the echo of a squeezed shoulder, a solitary rolling tear, or a whispered secret
back to a place we can never return, but eyes squeezed tighter still and breath held for a moment longer, we can dream that we’re there once more
