Four years ago, I walked into Phi Mu unsure of what I was looking for.
I had no idea that the girl standing there — nervous, hopeful, and uncertain of what was ahead — was about to find a home. I didn’t know she was about to meet the women who would become her closest friends, her greatest supporters, and, somehow, the people she would one day picture standing beside her as her future bridesmaids. I couldn’t have imagined the life waiting for me on the other side of that decision.
If I could go back and speak to that girl four years ago, I would simply tell her: trust it. You are about to find so much more than a chapter. You are about to find a home.
Today, I have just finished my second recruitment, and I find myself struggling to put into words what this experience has meant to me.
I have had the privilege of helping nearly 100 women find their place in Phi Mu. Nearly 100 stories, personalities, dreams, and nervous first steps. Nearly 100 women who walked through those doors not knowing exactly what they were looking for, and who left with the beginning of something they could not yet imagine.
Watching these women grow, find their voices, discover their confidence, and ultimately find the people who make them feel at home is something I will never take for granted.
I have always loved membership. I love the conversations, the connections, the anticipation, and even the uncertainty. But more than anything, I love witnessing the moment when someone realizes, I found my people.
To have been given the opportunity to experience that moment not once, but twice, is a gift I will carry with me long after recruitment is over.
Because four years ago, someone helped me find my home.
And now, I have been lucky enough to help others find theirs.
To my sisters — the women who became my home, my constants, and some of the most important people in my life — thank you. Thank you for giving me a place to belong, for shaping the woman I have become, and for giving me a friendship I once could not have imagined.
