R.I.P. JUAN ATKINS 🖤

I can hardly believe this heartbreaking news.

We have lost one of the true visionaries and founding fathers of electronic music. A pioneer who didn’t just create music but helped shape its future.

With Cybotron, Model 500 and his legendary Metroplex label, Juan laid the foundations of what we know today as techno. His vision inspired generations and helped build a musical bridge between Detroit and Berlin, with Tresor becoming such an important part of that connection.

Detroit always had a special place in my heart, and at our Omen club in Frankfurt, we always had our doors open to the Detroit pioneers and their extraordinary sound. That musical exchange was such an important part of our culture.

Juan and I crossed paths many times over the decades, always with mutual respect, joy and a shared passion for music.

His records have accompanied and inspired me since the early days. They remain part of my musical journey, and it meant a lot to me to include his music on my What I Used to Play compilation.

Juan was truly ahead of his time. His unique fusion of futuristic sounds, soul, funk and electronic machines opened doors to an entirely new musical universe.

My heart goes out to his family, loved ones, friends and fellow artists during this painful time.

Dear Juan, your music, your vision and your spirit will live on. On our turntables, on our dancefloors and in our hearts.

Thank you for opening the doors to the future.

Rest in peace, dear Juan.

With love,
Sven

i’ve got 36 hours to take 1,000 stories to parliament - comment ‘change’ for the survey

ever since my appointment to the @britishbeautycouncil i’ve been dreaming of a moment like this. starting ruka was more than just being about selling product or fundraising announcements. it has always been about becoming an advocate for the essential education, real innovation and now, real policy that protects us.

i’ve been invited to present evidence to parliament that will shape regulation for hair extensions going forward on Tues 3 Nov 2026.

@rukahair we’ve spent years investing in building the best fibre and striving for a higher standard than the market. without the support of real legislation, we invested in international lawyers and global labs for a safer, sustainable and ethical supply chain. but we know it’s not enough, and we can’t do it alone. protecting this community isn’t about instilling fear, but innovating for better choices and developing nuanced, scientific standards that institutionalise protection before it shows up on your scalp.

so i’m asking for three policies: we want extensions being imported into the country or being produced in the country to be vetted for (a) their origins (b) what they’re made of / composition (c) a definition of safety with regulatory limits of ingredients

but i can’t walk in there with just my story. i need yours. and i need them in the next 36 hours. so, if you’ve ever worn braiding hair, a wig or extensions, this is the one time your answer goes somewhere that can actually change something.

If you can’t do, you’ll try to teach. It’s that way in every craft. More so these days. Don’t be fooled. You’ll become one of these people if you buy into the shite.

Side note. The only man I know that has the absolute recipe for micro tattoos that last is my friend @bengrillo .. Most of these people selling micro tattoos are doing so blindly.

Tattooing is magic ✨
