English shrub rose ‘Princess Alexandra of Kent”-(Ausmerchant) from david Austin roses available as a shrub and as a standard rose
I grow this both as a full standard tree rose and also a shrub producing some of the largest flowers within the collection. Each bloom measuring around 100-120 mm across and containing around 130 petals the kind of rose you’re going to want to cut and enjoy in the house
Introduced in 2007. This pretty rose is harder than it looks and suitable for growing in zones 4-11, eventually creating a large shrub, around 4 1/2 feet tall, and around 4 1/2 feet wide it has light mint green foliage
Flowers are produced both individually and in large sprays, they are a deep salmon, pink in colour, highly ruffled and textured, often in flower by the beginning of June, this rose will still be flowering and working hard all the way through to the back end of September and into October
I recently featured it on my rose hip calendar countdown, and if left un deadheaded at the very end of the season, it will reward you with really large, plump, bright, orange hips, come autumn
The fragrance is Rich fruity and floral with back notes of Apples and blackcurrants
Few varieties have the ability of producing flowers quite as opulent show and fragrance as this rose
