So the new season of “60 Minutes” premiered tonight after the pro-Trump takeover of CBS News. Their stories: a bow to our war in Iran and a “Well, all presidents have done it” segment on Executive Office pardons. We all knew the David Ellison/Bari Weiss-led takeover and the firing of its best correspondents and producers would account for Trump bootlicking segments like this and will continue until everyone turns the show off and “60 Minutes” ends.
But I’m not here to address that. Oh, no. What I am here to highlight is its third and most significant segment: the greatness, the invincibility and the crowning of the Super Bowl championship to the Los Angeles Rams. Yes, you know them: the team that got their fucking ass kicked by the San Francisco 49’ers last Thursday in Melbourne, Australia. The team, along with their “generational talent” Coach Sean McVay, were spotlighted as potentially the greatest team in the history of the NFL and surefire winners of next year’s Super Bowl. Only one problem: the brilliant McVay decided it would be a great idea to show up the day before the game while the Niners got there a week earlier. The result: major jet-lag and the Rams got crushed. So “60 Minutes”, on top of expectantly looking stupid and lame with the Trump-loving stories, went 0-for-3 and looked ridiculous in the process. They didn’t even have the guts to add after the Ram love fest something along the lines of: “That being said, the almighty Rams had their asses handed to them last Thursday by the San Francisco 49’ers, 27-7”. What a surprise…
P.S. - Shame on the sell-outs Leslie Stahl, Bill Whitaker and Jon Wertheim, who chose a paycheck over their reputations and integrity…
