You got in. You got the place, the course, the admission, the job.

And on Tuesday you were crying in a bathroom and you could not have explained why to anyone who asked.

Both true: You're the first in your family to get this far. You're exhausted. Everyone at home is proud. Nobody at home has asked if you're okay.

This is the opportunity. This is also 4am, most days.

Gratitude is not a payment plan. Getting what you prayed for does not mean you now owe everybody a smile for the next four years.

One thing to try: stop saying "everything is too much." Name the one part that's actually heavy. Just one. It's usually smaller than the feeling and it's usually fixable.
