The Hooper Showcase at Pallotti High School this past weekend was definitely a vibe. 🏀
The event featured 6th–8th grade girls who had the opportunity to be evaluated by private high school coaches. The showcase was well organized, from full-court transition drills to live 5-on-5 full-court scrimmages.
Most importantly, the event provided exposure for young athletes to perform in front of some of the area’s best private school coaches. Coaches showed up ready to evaluate the next wave of talent, and if you looked closely enough, you got a glimpse of what these coaches are looking for at a live event.
There was plenty of local talent, along with girls who traveled from outside the area to participate. The players took full advantage of the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of coaches.
For the most part, there wasn’t a lot of one-on-one or selfish basketball. There were a few ball-dominant players at times, but overall, the ball moved around the court and the girls played aggressively on both sides of the ball.
Media outlets and Prep Girls Hoops were also in attendance to cover the event.
One thing I did notice was that non-high-school coaches, including some club basketball affiliates, were given access to player profiles and contact information. Since the primary purpose of the event was to showcase talent in front of private school coaches, that was something worth noting.
Overall, I would definitely recommend the Hooper Showcase next year to any middle school player looking for an opportunity to gain exposure and showcase their skills in front of private high school coaches.
Great event and a great opportunity for young athletes. 🏀
