Devan and I saw Tame Impala together on September 8th, 2026 (video on slide 2). The first time we saw Tame Impala together was April 17th, 2015 (video on final slide).
In my junior year of high school, I read Ken Kesey’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest for a choice novel project. My companion playlist to the text included “Fool on the Hill” by the Beatles and “Gotta Be Above It” by Tame Impala. It was the perfect synthesis of psychedelic interests: I was constructing meaning of psychonaut Ken Kesey’s literary work by relating it to my existing knowledge of my favorite artists’ trippiest tunes. What magic and synchronicity! Maybe hallucinogenics are to blame for my enduring love of Tame Impala… I always say that because Currents was released smack dab in the middle of my psychedelics phase, it’s basically imprinted on my brain. I must have heard “Let it Happen” countless times — nine of them live! I even know at which points during the song confetti is released!— yet the song has never ever gotten old to me. I still feel such joy when I hear “Let it happen (it’s gonna feel so good).”
