Did you know the SF port authority does not permit foreign captains to navigate their own boats into the bay? The famous Pilot captains jump aboard and captain large container ships in, they make the swap in all conditions, crazy!

Actually pilots don’t maneuver the ship as it is the captain’s responsibility they mostly give advice on how to enter and maneuver as they know the harbour specificity

These guys make crazy amounts of money for this job too! Can be as high as 700k a year for certain busy ports
