GoGreen at IIC Ghent!
Last week,
@joelthomastaylor from the Norwegian Institute for Cultural Heritage Research (@niku_conservation ) presented work developed within the EU-funded GoGreen project, exploring how greener decision-making can become a practical part of everyday conservation.
Developed collaboratively with 12 European conservation practitioners, the “spiral” model recognizes that conservation is rarely linear. Treatments involve testing, reflection and adjustment, while many of the decisions with the greatest sustainability impact happen long before we reach the bench.
The framework maps decision-making across four interconnected tiers: Operational, Tactical, Strategic and Meta. Using reflective questions grounded in GoGreen’s 14 parameters, this “green scaffolding” helps conservators start with changes within their own practice while building the vocabulary and confidence to influence broader institutional decisions.
And what a fantastic
@iiconservation Congress to share this work! Ghent brought together conservation professionals from around the world, with a strong focus on inclusion and accessibility. Online participation and interpretation into multiple languages allowed the conversations to reach far beyond those physically in the room.
Bianca Gonçalves from the GoGreen team was also there, sharing our Green Conservation definition brochures, and they were a hit! It was great to see people picking them up, asking questions and taking GoGreen ideas back to their own institutions and practices.
If you are an IIC member and missed Joel’s presentation, you can still access the recorded Congress sessions online.
