The 2026 U.S. midterm elections marked a historic moment in American politics. 🇺🇸 Across the country, candidates from communities long underrepresented in political leadership achieved groundbreaking victories, marking significant milestones in American representation. From Keisha Lance Bottoms becoming the first Black woman elected governor of a U.S. state to Deb Haaland becoming the first Native American woman to achieve the same distinction, the elections brought a series of historic firsts. Other milestones included Abdul El-Sayed becoming the first Muslim elected to the U.S. Senate, Chris Pappas becoming its first openly gay male senator, and Gina Hinojosa becoming Texas’s first Latina governor. David Crowley also became Wisconsin’s first Black governor, while Aber Kawas marked a significant moment for Palestinian American representation in New York. In another historic development, five Black governors are set to serve simultaneously for the first time in the nation’s history. Together, these results represent an important chapter in the evolving story of American political leadership, reflecting a broader range of backgrounds and experiences in some of the country’s highest elected offices. - #history #usa #politics #black #lgbtq
This wasn't on our plans for the week... but life has a way of sometimes suddenly bringing you to your knees and reminding you what really matters. ❤️ Here is a small update for GoodLuck fans: The last few days have been a bit of a rollercoaster for us. On Sunday I noticed something strange about Ben’s eye - it was super puffy so we thought maybe allergies & gave him an antihistamine. Then, yesterday he noticed one pupil was much smaller than the other. He’d had a small headache the day before, but otherwise felt completely fine. Thankfully we decided to get it checked out. After a full day (in a very busy) emergency room & a few scans later and we’ve discovered an abnormality in one of the main arteries supplying blood to his brain, with doctors suspecting a small tear in the artery wall. He’s now in hospital being monitored while they work out the best way forward. Thankfully there’s no sign of a stroke and he’s feeling good, but wow... what an unexpected wake-up call. I think we’ve been running at a million miles an hour for so long that we’ve almost forgotten how to slow down. Between the music, the shows, the festivals and being parents, life has been FULL. Beautifully full, but full nonetheless. And suddenly, none of the deadlines or to-do lists seem quite so important.🙏 We’re feeling incredibly grateful that we caught this early, and it’s been a big reminder to slow down a little, be present and hold each other a little bit closer. We might need to take our foot off the gas for a moment while Ben recovers, but we’ll keep you posted. Sending love to you all, and a little reminder to look after yourselves and each other. ❤️ Jules x
