High Tide explores themes of transformation, adaptation, resistance, and resilience in response to the pressures, tensions, and challenges confronting humanity at the close of the Anthropocene. The three artists, all graduates of the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, examine the vulnerabilities of the human body through their performance practices. The program opens with a scientific perspective that questions humanity’s ambition to assert dominance over the world from an upright posture. In the background, the deafening sounds of combat reveal the dangers of an overly efficient mode of locomotion. In the dim light, the transformation of the body becomes an awkward act of rebellion, futilely attempting to disrupt the evolutionary process. Through a dynamic interplay of cause and effect, the performances create a framework in which resistance, instability, and inadequacy emerge. Conceived specifically for Fondazione ICA Milano, the works establish a meaningful relationship with the Foundation’s spaces, both physically and metaphorically.

Cloe Piccoli is an art critic, curator and tenure Professor of Contemporary Art at the Brera Fine Arts Academy in Milan. In 2022 Cloe Piccoli curates the Italian Council winning project 20/20.000 Hz by Masbedo promoted by the Italian Ministry of Culture, together with a network of International partner: ICA, Milan, Soda Gallery, Manchester, Centre Pompidou, Metz, CCA Tel Aviv-Yafo, MAXXI, Rome, Fondazione Merz Turin, Triennale, Milan, Castello Sforzesco Milan, Museo del Novecento Milan. This year, she was appointed director of MiArt for the three-year period 2027–2029.
