RIP My darling father, I don’t quite know how to write this. I am completely devastated by his death, words seem so inadequate when trying to describe someone I loved so very much. He was an extraordinary man, one of the kindest, gentlest, most intelligent and endlessly curious people I have ever known. Completely otherworldly at times, with a mind that seemed to wander through centuries, ideas, philosophy, history, politics, science and literature as naturally as other people might discuss the weather. As well as speaking 7 languages he could joke in so many of them But what made him so remarkable was his sense of humor and humanity. His extraordinary patience, his willingness to listen, and his capacity to see things from so many different perspectives. He never stopped questioning, learning or thinking. I spent so much of my childhood with him. He taught me to read, and on our long walks and journeys everywhere we would talk for hours, about absolutely anything and everything. He never treated me as a child who couldn’t understand. He took my questions seriously, however absurd they might have been, and encouraged me to find my own answers…. He was also fantastically eccentric, funny, sometimes impossible to pin down, and full of contradictions, as all truly interesting people are. There was nothing ordinary about him, and yet he was utterly without pretension in so many ways. Oh Dad, I miss you 🕊️💔
