For #NationalGymnasticsDay, meet Podium DPhil Student – and gymnast – Lucy Buchanan, whose research is exploring how we could better monitor gymnasts’ movements outside the lab.
Her research tested whether smartphone-based markerless motion capture could accurately track complex gymnastics movements, comparing it with established marker-based technology.
One day, technology already in our pockets could make movement monitoring much more accessible to gymnasts and coaches. 📱

This is so interesting! I came across something similar called Perch a few years ago. They were acquired by Catapult Sports and developed a camera-like hardware to capture weight room movements of athletes to optimise performance by identifying muscle imbalance and strain metrics and just overall workload.
