The US midterm elections have brought a major victory for the Democratic Party, dealing a big blow to President Donald Trump and his Republican Party. Democrats have won control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, after making major gains in several states.

The results are being seen as a strong sign of voter anger over Trump’s policies and leadership.
The results also led to celebrations among US voters and political supporters living in Australia. More than 100 people gathered at a pub in Sydney to watch the election results. The mood quickly turned from tension to celebration as news of the Democratic victories came in.
