GATES FOUNDATION called and I answered, present in the room to learn and engage with ministry officials, classroom implementers, regional EdTech founders, funders, and people building Artificial Intelligence (Ai) tools in very different contexts ON “How do we use Ai in ways that are equitable, practical, and actually improve learning outcomes?”
The engagements organized around three high-leverage use cases that is fundamental in the Ai for Education landscape right now: teacher support, personalised learning, and assessment. As Africa continue to address teacher shortages, overcrowded classrooms, weak formative assessment with its projected a billion school children by 2050, we are bound to build solutions rooted in real classrooms, real languages, real infrastructure constraints, and real teacher workloads. Glad this event emphasised a clear, repeated call for shared infrastructure: public datasets, better benchmarks for what “good Ai” looks like in African education tasks, and transparent evidence for ALL building for education using Ai.
I Ieft Nairobi with a conviction that
@areai4africa current push for shared datasets, open evaluation, and systemic work on teacher support and assessment must move with urgency and build with equity, serving populations who cannot wait for perfect systems or afford tools that are modern and only leave outcomes unchanged.
If you are building an AI tool, solution, product or any form of technologies in education, comment below and let’s engage!
