Made By @xo.408raised 🤎In Honor of Indigenous/Chicane Heritage month, I made a dish that my grandfather from Venezuela, taught me. Congri 🇻🇪 Blackened catfish & cornbread , my mother taught me how to make, Soul Food with a Venezuelan twist! I am a child of the corn, Tonantzin’s daughter. For I am her , the land is me, and she is me! 🌹🌱Camote 🍠, my grandmother taught me how to make this when I was in elementary and it’s my favorite Mexican nostalgic sweet tooth 🇲🇽 (added peaches for soul food flavors)
Sometimes we forget how much our cultures intersect, and how our indigenous cultura is still here, even after colonialism, traditions, wisdom, recipes , harvests, are passed down to the youth to continue the transition of wisdom. This month may look different for others, but I took lots of time, love, shadow work and care to decolonize this month for my linage, and even if our meals, languages , traditions, and recipes , may be different, allow us to remember the earth we are all connected to. To remember that the wisdom is being passed down for healing, not comparison, not for hate, not for evil, but for the evolution of the indigenous communities that have centuries of injustice running through our veins, this heritage month, allow us to never forget the ancestors who were shunned for being themselves. Now that you have the freedom to choose, choose authenticity, justice, alchemy and most importantly Love! #bayarea #indigenousmonth #chef #culturalawareness #native
