"Kiss Me" is the breakout pop hit by American band Sixpence None the Richer.
Bio
Artist: Sixpence None the Richer, formed in New Braunfels, Texas in 1992 around vocalist Leigh Nash and guitarist/songwriter Matt Slocum. Their name comes from a passage in C.S. Lewis's Mere Christianity.
Songwriter: Matt Slocum
Album / Release: Self-titled album Sixpence None the Richer, released as a single in 1997/1998.
Origin story: It started as a draft written in a Dutch motel. Leigh Nash said the band had been in their rooms for about an hour when Slocum called to say he'd written a new song.
Sound & theme: A bright, whimsical, fairy-tale romance song about affection and connection, radically different from the band's typically melancholy, mellow catalog.
Success: Peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, anchored the movie She's All That, and is currently certified 3× Platinum by the RIAA.
It remains the band's signature song and one of the most recognized 90s pop hits worldwide.
