Moody food photography:
5 different ways to light the same product
1. Narrow strip soft box with a grid 💡
Soft directional shadows, moody look with lower contrast
2. Reflector with barn doors and a grid 💡
Hard direct shadows, moody look with medium contrast
3. Reflector with barn doors and a grid + reflector 💡
Hard direct shadows, slightly brighter, yet dark look, high contrast
4. Snoot with a grid 💡
Hard, sharp shadows, super moody look, high contrast
5. Natural diffused hard light 💡
From a window at sunset, with gobo (in this case trees) diffusing it, soft moody look with medium contrast
All shot with F/7.1 to reach a cohesive look throughout the shots 📷. Used a low shutter speed (1/40 sec), a timer and a tripod when shooting with natural light to keep the ISO low.
