This is the story of a little fisherman who only fished in the morning
Because for him, happiness meant being with his loved ones, enjoying his family, lounging on the sand, watching his daughters grow up, and spending quiet afternoons.
One day, as he was resting aside his boat, a businessman in a tie asked him a question:
“What’s the point of sleeping by the harbor when there are still so many fish swimming out at sea?
To build an empire, work without counting the hours
With the money you make, you’ll buy a motor
You’ll fish farther out and boost your margins
Soon, you’ll have ten boats and concrete buildings
Crustaceans and cetaceans will all end up high in the ravenous nets of your steel trawlers
You’ll move your stock by churning out Filet-O-Fish sandwiches
And the dough you rake in—you won’t have to hand it over to the taxman
Then, you’ll be swimming in dollars through import-export deals
The seabed will be dead, but you’ll live like a king.”
“What does living like a king mean to you?” said the fisherman
“A king’s life means being able to enjoy your family for hours, Lazing on the sand, Watching your daughters grow up, spending quiet afternoons.”
“But that’s exactly what I’m already doing”
