It’s Suicide Prevention Month, and I think one of the most important things we forget is how we talk about mental illness.
There are people around you who may be struggling quietly, while also hearing the comments you make, the jokes you laugh at, or your opinions about mental health and suicide.
There is still so much shame, judgement and discomfort around mental health. I understand these conversations can be difficult, but that can’t be an excuse to keep avoiding them.
Acting like mental health struggles don’t exist won’t make them go away.
Sometimes, the kindest thing we can do is meet people with less judgement and a little more curiosity and kindness. We may never fully know what someone else is carrying.
Mental health is health. And taking care of it should never be something we’re ashamed of. 🤍
