Iona Green

A month or so ago i painted a series of imagined portraits that I’ll share over the next few days. They’re entirely invented but some draw from pre-existing literary and mythological characters. For this mysterious lady I was thinking about the Greek character, Argus Panoptes, ‘the all seeing one’. He was hired by the goddess Hera to watch over Io, a lover of her husband Zeus, whom he had transformed into a white cow in order to disguise their infidelity.

What do you think this magical lady is watching over? What is she protecting? What is her name?
