“My goal is to live the truly religious life, and express it in my music. If you live it, when you play there’s no problem because the music is part of the whole thing. To be a musician is really something. It goes very, very deep. My music is the spiritual expression of what I am - my faith, my knowledge, my being” - @johncoltrane. Today on September 23rd marks the 100th Birthday one of Jazz’s most influential musicians in legendary saxophonist John Coltrane. He fundamentally transformed modern music through his technical mastery, harmonic innovations, and deep spiritual expression. Throughout his iconic career, John Coltrane had collaborated with plenty of Jazz musicians such as @milesdavis, Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones, Jimmy Garrison, and several others. His most well known albums that were created, recorded and released in his career were “Blue Train”, “My Favorite Things”, “Giant Steps”, “A Love Supreme”, “Ascension”, “Meditations”, “Om”, “Spiritual” and many others. During his lifetime, Coltrane was married twice. First to Juanita “Naima” Grubbs and lastly to Alice McLeod (Alice Coltrane). Both women influenced him musically and spiritually in his lifetime. With Alice Coltrane, John and her had three children together: John Jr., Ravi, and Oran. Despite his life being cut short by liver cancer at the age of 40, John Coltrane lived a life many musicians could ever imagine. He brought spirituality to Jazz music and also fully transformed the genre through religion and his search for transcendence through music. John Coltrane’s influence in Jazz is still alive today as many musicians and artists remain inspired by his music, life and legacy. #JohnColtrane #100thBirthday #JazzLegend #GiantSteps #ALoveSupreme 👑🎂🎷🎶🎵
