Today marks 100 years of Wythenshawe Park and Hall. 🎉
A century ago today, Ernest and Shena Simon purchased the historic hall from Robert Henry Grenville Tatton and gifted it to Manchester Corporation, ensuring it would be protected forever as a public green space for future generations.
To celebrate this special milestone, we’re shining a spotlight on one of the fantastic organisations helping people connect with nature in the park today: Nacro Outdoor Learning.
Back in August, we visited Nacro alongside Mike Kane MP and Cllr Dave Marsh, who spent time with the group learning about their work and even joined the young people for a ride across the park. 🚴
Nacro delivers outdoor sports, bushcraft, environmental education and volunteering opportunities that help young people develop confidence, teamwork, problem-solving and critical thinking skills, all while spending time in nature. Their programmes support a wide range of groups, including those who may face barriers to accessing the outdoors. Through initiatives such as the Holiday Activity Fund, they also provide free holiday club places and healthy meals for children and young people during the school holidays, offering valuable support to families across the community.
We’re also excited to be developing a new youth centre in Wythenshawe Park, which will enable Nacro to expand its offer with more indoor activities and opportunities for young people throughout the year.
👀 Keep your eyes peeled for more information, opening dates and details about everything the new site will have to offer.
