Nolan Wells deserves justice—but because he was a Black boy living in a country as racist as America he will never receive it. For centuries, Black people have been dehumanized to the point that our history is being completely erased and our lives are seen as unworthy of protection.

This is also why sneaker brands feel comfortable releasing KKK and lynching imagery in their advertisements and corporations are selling minstrel outfits as Halloween costumes.

The “anger” that we’ve become synonymous with stems from oppression, bigotry and fighting to safely exist in our skin. No matter how exhausting, I hope that Nolan’s family eventually finds the answers that they are looking for.
