We immediately rebook for the next day and book an Airbnb. Easy right?
Forecast is not looking good so we see tons of flights leaving Palermo …3 hours away ….and cancel the Airbnb to head there. Except so do thousands of others and people that were already in Palermo heading to where we are, stay put. Palermo is full. There isn’t a room to let. Zero!!! We spend the entire train trip looking at booking options to literally fly anywhere just to get onto the continent, off the island. We even standby at the airport, but there is nothing. Tomorrow, if there are further delays, there will be thousands more people in the same boat.
We now have three different plans and sets of reservations that are all equally challenging including an overnight train (am I 17?) the thing is …the next leg of our vacation is our most precious week at a super gorgeous resort and we’ve already missed one day. The flight we have booked tomorrow is direct to there so we decide we’re going to leave here at 5 AM on the train BACK to where we came from with the slightest hope that it takes off and if it doesn’t, our other plans kick into action. We’ll be setting off late night tomorrow night to try to make our way through plan B or C. All these have us not arriving to our Greek paradise until late Tuesday, halfway through that dreamy trip. We’ve had more laughing fits than tears, so we are ahead… but this isn’t how I envisioned my much needed vacation … first world problems?!
