CHIEF RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT ⭐️
Meet Robert Tung, MD, Chief Resident in Plastic Surgery at UT Health Houston! Robert’s connection to medicine spans generations. His grandfather was a cardiologist in Shanghai, and his father immigrated from Shanghai to the United States during the Cultural Revolution before becoming a cardiologist himself. Their journeys helped inspire Robert’s own path into medicine and surgery.
As a Chinese-American plastic surgeon, Robert hopes to represent the next generation while recognizing the important role that culture, identity, and individual goals play in each patient’s journey. He is particularly interested in aesthetic plastic surgery, including facial aesthetics, breast, and body surgery, and is grateful to Dr. Ying Chen for her mentorship in oculoplastic surgery and for teaching him about the nuances of Asian facial anatomy and aesthetics.
Robert hopes to see PSCD continue to grow its community, expand meaningful mentorship opportunities, and increase representation of Asian plastic surgeons while supporting the next generation of trainees. He also recently served as one of the local hosts for the PSCD gathering at Plastic Surgery The Meeting in Houston, helping bring members of the community together in person.
Outside of medicine, Robert is a lifelong tennis player who continues to compete. He also enjoys traveling, spending time with his wife and their rescue dog Patch, and creating content about his journey in plastic surgery.
Robert will be completing his Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship at South Coast Plastic Surgery in 2027, and we are excited to follow this next chapter of his career!
