I finally feel like posting something, so I thought I'd start with pics from the plays I've been a part of.
This is technically my second play but more significant in my journey.Can you spot me?
'The Night Thoreau Spent In Jail' was first staged in 1998 at
@sxcbom , as part of
@ithaka_fest the literature & theatre festival managed by the English Literature Department. This play was the maiden production of
@qtpindia and was later staged at
@prithvitheatre &
@ncpamumbai the next year.
Before that however, I had auditioned and didnt get through.A few days later my man Quasar (possibly very reluctantly :P) came up to me while I was doing
@malharfest work and asked if was still keen as someone had dropped out. (I still remember the day he came upto the BCR and asked me through the window in his professional deadpan face. "Are you still keen?" :P) I was of course super enthu to join. The rest is history.
St. Xavier's College, the opportunities it provided and also the superbly smart and talented people I met there had a big impact on me. (Although interested, in performing arts, I didnt come from a performing arts background and was planning to get into coding :P)
This was the start of my theatre journey. I had three small walk on parts: a drunk villager, a soldier in a dream, and a funeral priest. During a zero show for friends and family I forgot one of my entries. I wonder if Q remembers.
In another instance, after a show, a production member's mother asked what I was doing in the play. She couldn't remember me :P. Those are just some fun facts.
Hope you enjoy seeing these and can spot some familiar faces.
Also I often think about who dropped out. Someone dropping out lead to this big theatre and acting adventure.
I'd be remiss if I were not to mention my teacher and reputed poet , the late and legendary (and at times intimidating) Prof Eunice D'Souza. I credit her for expanding my mind to discover and appreciate literature beyond what I was reading at the time. And also for this festival that I believe she herself initiated.
Btw the song is what the play opened with
