Democratic U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens faced backlash Sunday after endorsing Republican Mike Rogers in Michigan’s U.S. Senate race, including being heckled and called a “traitor” during a joint news conference with Rogers.

A protester shouted, “Haley Stevens is a traitor!” as Stevens stood alongside Rogers. The news conference ended shortly afterward, just two days before Tuesday’s election.

Earlier Sunday, Stevens attended a service at Detroit’s Perfecting Church with Rogers before publicly announcing her endorsement of the Republican candidate over Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed, who defeated her in August’s primary.
President Donald Trump praised Stevens on Truth Social, describing her as a “Highly Respected Democrat” and commending her decision as an act of bravery.
The endorsement also triggered turmoil within Stevens’ congressional office. Her longtime chief of staff resigned, along with her communications director, while additional staff departures were reported.

Stevens had previously pledged to support El-Sayed but reversed course following a public dispute involving Israel and campaign messaging. Her decision comes as Michigan voters prepare to choose between Rogers and El-Sayed on Tuesday, Nov. 3, in a closely watched race for the U.S. Senate.
