@thenamibali , the newest dining addition to The Apurva Kempinski Bali made a memorable impression, even before the first course served.
The space feels beautifully Japanese and immediately calming, with warm wooden ceilings, intricate latticework, softly lit wall panels and oversized lanterns. The main Teppan Bar brings you close to the chefs at work, while more intimate teppan settings offer space for private dining.
Menus range from five to ten courses, and we chose the nine-course Godai Namikase. Premium ingredients, creative combinations and thoughtful presentation made every course something to look forward to.
Hamachi opened the meal with delicate yellowtail, shiso, ginger oil and yuzu kosho pearls, followed by Shokkan Sarada, a refreshing mix of heirloom tomatoes, potato, renkon and sea grapes. Then came the silky Chawanmushi, filled with tiger prawn, shimeji, edamame and shio kombu.
The Foie Gras on brioche with apple, figs and iwanori sauce was wonderfully rich, with sweetness and savoury depth in each bite. Beautifully seared Hokkaido Hotate followed with turnip, garlic and a jus with sake, before Japanese Tai brought delicate sea bream together with zucchini, tarragon and beurre blanc.
Yakimeshi, garlic fried rice with sakura ebi and miso soup, was pure comfort. Raspberry with yuzu sake and popping candy added a playful touch, before Warabimochi with soya bean powder, Okinawa sugar and ice cream gave the meal a lovely, gently sweet finish. Nine courses, each distinct, and honestly, we enjoyed every one.
There’s sake pairing too, featuring one of the most exciting selections we’ve come across in Bali, including premium bottles. Having the team introduce each selection made discovering them part of the pleasure.
We finished with the Samidori matcha ceremony, watching the bowl being warmed and the bamboo whisk prepared before the matcha was measured in. Every movement was lovely to watch.
Before drinking, we were guided to do the bowl turning etiquette. Such a small detail, but one that made the moment stay with us.
NAMI gave us plenty to remember, and a very good reason to make our way back to Nusa Dua.
