I've been stress-testing these trinkets for weeks and am happy to say they hold up to daily/regular use. This is my laptop bag, which I bring with me almost every time I leave the house. The crocheted yarn loops have proven to be a secure attachment method, the thickness of the wood has proven to be enough that they are not at risk of snapping off theough regular wear and tear, and the engraving hasn't been damaged/worn down.
.
Since I intend to sell these I think it's fair I go through my reasoning for pricing things. Even if I don't post this for every item, I hope being transparent early like this helps establish where I'm getting my numbers from and why I don't intend to have discounts.
.
A block of wood big enough to make 10 cost me $20, and the yarn is $12/cone but realistically the amount of yarn used per loop is only worth a few cents maximum. Making each trinket takes about 10 minutes of my time between the loop and the printing, and the art plus commercial license were $15 per character. For the purposes of my little math equation below, materials include the wood, the yarn, and a fraction of the art cost based on selling 25 trinkets and my time is valued at $10/hr. The size of trinket used for the material math is 2.5" tall (Dahlia and Angela, second slide).
Cost = Materials + Time + Profit
C= (2+0.05+0.60) + [(10/60)*10] + P
C= 2.65 + 1.67 + P
C= 4.32 + P
That $0.60 for the art will turn into profit after I've sold at least 25 trinkets. A psychological trick that stores will use in their pricing is to put .99 at the end of a price so that your brain rounds down. I think $4.99 is a fair price for the trinkets. With this price, I'll break even on trinkets after selling only 12 trinkets and make $1.27 profit per trinket after that.
.
This example was only given for a single character. I have purchased art for 10 characters so far in this chibi trinket style ($150), so before I make any actual profit I'd have to sell over 100 trinkets. I'm not a corporation, I'm not in it for profit, I want people who enjoy the book to be able to get cheap but sturdy merch.

While $4.99 may seem expensive for these little guys, I believe it's fair. The loop used to attac
