I stopped telling people when I dream about them, but last night I had a good one.

I was sitting in the “lounge” car of a moving train, where the onboard entertainment was a movie that showed life on the train I was on, but with time running backwards. As the conductor passed through the car, I felt a welt on my chin. It was itchy, and I asked him whether it was a bug bite. He shrugged and moved on, and then in the movie, I saw that a few minutes earlier a mosquito had landed on my chin and bitten me, and the mosquito was the conductor himself!

The conductor and the mosquito were played by the same person, who's appeared in my dreams a few times over the past few years while I was working on my film, possibly because he is the last remaining person in my life connected to some nice memories of the film's location

I’m not really in touch with my feelings (haha) - I have a lot of them, but most days I want to do my thing and push them away, so over the years I've learned to trust my dreams to fill the gap. I also learned that if an image comes to me while I’m in there I should just go for it irl. A lot of the film was written in response to dream "events", and that’s why the path is not direct but associative, and the shape is not exactly a line but closer to a spiral. It’s how my brain operates anyway so I stopped fighting it (It’s also why Synchronicity by Jung got its own film credit, kind of).

I made a film once years ago at Film Farm that was based on a dream I had while napping under a willow tree. When later I understood what it was about, it felt too personal so I never showed the film publicly.

Actually I had another great dream about the farm that I included in the slides, and when I told Phil (Hoffman) about it, his reaction made me go 👀👀

He said: “of course, you know that in your dream I am you.” I had never considered before that everyone you encounter in your dreams is you yourself. So if the train conductor and the mosquito are also me, what does it mean?

Here are 5 slivers of the never shown film farm film > dream diary pages > images that originated in dreams > making dumplings w sarah + eating dumplings w nader, also big dream ppl.
