Pope John Paul II (Karol Wojtyła) was Pope from 1978 to 2005, the first Polish Pope and one of the longest-serving in history. He played a significant role in the fall of communism in Central Europe, traveled extensively to 129 countries, and emphasized human dignity, youth evangelization, and forgiveness. Canonized as a saint in 2014, his legacy continues to shape the Catholic Church worldwide.
