My husband got me pregnant. Pregnancy gave me melasma. Therefore, my microneedling is now a household expense.

I don’t make the rules.

🤰 DID YOU KNOW? Approximately 15–50% of pregnant women develop melasma, also known as the mask of pregnancy. And unfortunately, it doesn’t always disappear after delivery! 🙋🏼‍♀️

So what ACTUALLY helps?

☀️ SPF DAILY! Tinted SPF 30–50+ with iron oxides helps protect against UV AND visible light.

👒 Hats & shade! Sun protection is your BEST defense.

🧴 Pigment inhibitors! Azelaic acid, vitamin C, and prescription hydroquinone can help manage pigmentation. Not all are pregnancy-safe!

✨ Retinoids! Helpful for pigmentation, but NOT during pregnancy.

💉 Microneedling! May improve melasma as part of a comprehensive treatment plan, but it’s not a cure or first-line treatment. In my case i have seen this help me a TON!

🔥 Limit excessive heat! Heat can worsen melasma for some people.

👩🏼‍⚕️ CLINICAL NOTE: Treatment should be individualized, and aggressive procedures can worsen pigmentation.

Melasma is chronic, and prevention is KEY! Consistent sun protection has the strongest evidence.

But I still think my husband should pay. 🤣

Anyone else still dealing with their pregnancy melasma YEARS later? #melasma
