Meet our mates Kyle (
@thealchemistsmud ) & Birdie (@biird.e ).
They’re 2 very talented Geelong based ceramicists. Whose work is in the DNA to this first Mama’s Cooking.
We met Kyle and Birdie after starting our journey into ceramics. We go to a studio in Geelong and through becoming regulars there we made friends.
If Kyle’s not in studio, you’ll probably catch him working at your favorite events (eg. Laneway, etc) or with Achilles (a very cute golden retriever). Where you see a log, Kyle sees opportunity. His work usually reflects the textures around him whether natural, synthetic, or accidental. Kyle takes any chance he can to press his any log, brick, chunk of concrete, or anything he can get his hands on to create one of a kind pieces.
He’s always got a pile of bricks in his garage to go. In case any one of his pieces needs a bit additional flavour.
Achilles :p
Birdie’s a laid back soul. Who you can most likely find outside, anywhere, but most likely near the beach or out in nature. Her work tends to be more practical yet shes always down to take on a good challenge or make the occasional sculptural piece. While she tends to stick to items such as teapots, kimchi jars, and olive oil bottles. You’ll often find her making beautiful vases and chess sets.
Her work tends to be structural, opting for a very consistent shape language. You’ll be able to recognize it by the wide openings in her vessels along with the rounded corners, lack of angularity, and soft welcoming palettes she glazes her pieces with.
Kyle and Birdie have come together to make something quite special for this first MAMA’s Cooking.
What that special thing is, you’ll have to wait for.
