CPDAP in Cooperation with the Drug Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA) and Gift of Hope Foundation Strengthen Substance Use Prevention in Tanzania
The Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme (CPDAP), Tanzania’s Drug Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA) and the Gift of Hope Foundation (GoHF) are joining forces to address substance use disorders—a key shared concern for all three institutions. Their collaboration supports a five-day Universal Prevention Curriculum Training of Trainers in Tanga, Tanzania, from 20–24 October 2026.
The initiative is especially relevant in Tanga, a region of more than 2.6 million people that faces significant drug-related challenges. Tanga is known as a major drug entry point and ranks second only to Dar es Salaam in drug consumption, reinforcing the need for coordinated prevention and early intervention.
Delivered through the ECHO Training Model, the prevention training forms part of GoHF’s “Focus on Youth, Not the Substance” project under the TangaYetu Programme. It brings together 22 participants—11 women and 11 men—from government, civil society and the private sector, including doctors, teachers, psychologists, social welfare workers, project coordinators and community outreach officers.
The Deputy Mayor of Tanga City Council graced the opening ceremony, underscoring the importance of coordinated local action.
Through evidence-based prevention and sustained local capacity, CPDAP, DCEA and GoHF are equipping professionals and communities to respond more effectively to substance use disorders, protect young people and build healthier, safer futures across Tanga and beyond.
