Salute to Thierry Henry for drawing attention to the racially motivated mass shooting in the Paris suburbs of Trappes and La Verrière. Speaking on CBS Sports’ UCL Today show, the Frenchman paid tribute to the victims of the October 23 attack, while expressing his anger at the violence and the weight of constantly having to prove your Frenchness. Pengo Bossio Wangi, a 26-year-old MMA fighter, was killed in the shootings, while seven others were wounded, including a 12-year-old girl. A 39-year-old man has since been charged and remanded in custody, with prosecutors saying he admitted deliberately targeting people he perceived as Muslim, African or North African. “I’m Black. I’m French. I’m a dad. That could have been my brother. That could have been my daughter,” Henry said. The Golazo show is known for its camaraderie and banter, but Henry showed there’s always room to use your platform for something bigger. Many of its viewers may never have heard of Trappes, but he took the time to name Pengo and call the attack for what it was: racism. Henry has spent more than two decades speaking out against racism, but one of the most powerful moments came when he questioned why people like him still have to prove they belong. “Do we have to always show that we are French?” Pengo’s name deserves to travel far beyond the news cycle. Thanks to Thierry, it just did.

ACP Manasvi Vashishta, who led the protest by police personnel outside the Delhi Police Headquarters on Monday, has been suspended for ‘violation of discipline’.  The suspension comes a day after around 100 police personnel, including women officers, protested outside Gate No. 1 of the Delhi Police Headquarters (PHQ) over the transfers of ACP Manasvi Vashistha and Inspector Arun Kumar. The police personnel demanded a meeting with Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar and the reinstatement of the two officials. An incident on October 23 at Shahdara police station is behind the protests. An advocate allegedly sustained a serious head injury during a scuffle at the station, prompting district court lawyers to launch an indefinite strike, demanding action against the police personnel involved. The strike was called off after the transfer orders were issued. The police personnel, however, opposed the transfers and sought action against the lawyers involved in the confrontation.
