Yes

The most celebratory Indian dessert. And yes, you can make it at home. 🧡

Rasmalai. Soft, pillowy chenna discs soaked in saffron and cardamom milk. This is my family’s recipe, made by feel and andaza for generations.

I tested batch after batch. I measured everything my mom described by feel: the exact weight to press the chenna, how long to leave it, which pan sizes give the milk and the rasmalai enough room to do what they need to do. I even tried skipping the ice bath twice, hoping to spare you that step. I couldn’t.

What you have here is the result of all those calls with my mom, all those test batches, and years of making this recipe my own. I hope it brings the same magic to your kitchen that she always made look so effortless. 🙏🏽

Make it a day ahead. The flavor only gets better overnight. Garnish with pistachios, almonds, and a few strands of saffron. ✨

The Batter: Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, eggs, milk, and melted butter, then fold in a generous cup of chopped pecans.

US President Donald Trump’s Republican Party has lost control of both chambers of Congress in the November 3 midterm elections, handing Democrats a major victory and setting up a tougher final two years of his presidency. The new balance of power takes effect when the incoming Congress assumes office in January 2027.

Democrats secured victories well beyond the usual battlegrounds, flipping Senate seats in Republican strongholds including Texas, Kansas and South Carolina. Their gains also delivered a majority in the House of Representatives, ending Republicans’ unified control of Washington.

The result followed a campaign dominated by concerns over living costs, tariffs and the war with Iran. Reuters reported that frustration over these issues helped Democrats make substantial gains in areas that had backed Trump just two years earlier.

What does this mean for Trump? His administration will face an opposition-controlled Congress with the power to block legislation, investigate government decisions and demand concessions on spending. Democratic control of the Senate also creates a major obstacle for presidential appointments, including judicial nominees requiring confirmation.

However, claims that “no bills will pass for the next two years” are incorrect. Legislation can still become law if both chambers agree and the president approves it, or Congress overrides a veto. The likely consequence is greater negotiation and legislative deadlock over contentious proposals—not a complete halt to lawmaking.

Trump remains president. But from January, advancing his legislative agenda will require support from the party that has just defeated his Republicans at the ballot box.
