THE WHY — UNLIKE REGULAR PEOPLE

Unlike Regular People was never created to be just another clothing brand.

It was built from a lifetime of choosing a different path.

At 29, I was bartending.

From there, I became a professional poker player—something I had been pursuing since my college days at Arizona State University.

Two years into playing professionally, I came across a Wall Street Journal article about investment bankers leaving their careers to become professional poker players.

Ironically, that was the moment I decided to walk away from poker. But not risks

So I made another unconventional move.

I pulled a Mike Ross from Suits—looked the part, earned my Series 7, 6, and 63 licenses, and built a career in finance.

Eighteen years later, I’m still in the industry.

But my story was never meant to fit into one box.

Along the way came basketball. Dancing. Entrepreneurship. Challenges. Reinvention. Even a couple of lawsuits against banks and the government—with a 2–0 record.

Every chapter reinforced the same lesson:

I was never meant to live according to someone else’s definition of what was normal.

Then came a moment that made the message even clearer.

I was criticized—and even labeled—simply because of the way I chose to dress outside of work.

That was the final straw.

Why should the way someone dresses, thinks, lives, creates, or defines success have to fit someone else’s expectations?

It shouldn’t.

And that is the WHY behind Unlike Regular People.

URP isn’t about being different for the sake of being different.

It’s about having the confidence to think for yourself.

Dress for yourself.

Take risks for yourself.

And define success on your own terms.

You don’t have to fit the mold.

You don’t have to apologize for standing apart.

Own what makes you different.

Embrace it.
