FOREST HILLS, QUEENS — An unusual encounter unfolded on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, when a man reportedly knelt before New York Governor Kathy Hochul near 71st Avenue (Continental Avenue) in Forest Hills and asked her for $100 to buy breakfast. According to an account of the incident, Hochul responded that she did not have any money on her. The man then shook hands with the governor and reportedly told her that he had voted for her. He also made a striking claim about her criminal justice policies, saying that when police arrest him, he is taken to a hospital rather than jail. The encounter took another turn when members of Hochul’s staff reportedly stepped in and gave the man some cash. The exchange occurred as Hochul sought reelection in New York’s closely watched gubernatorial race.
This photo is said to show Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada in the early 2000s, when he was already one of the most powerful figures in the Sinaloa Cartel. For decades, he managed to avoid capture, operating in the shadows even after his longtime partner, El Chapo Guzmán, was arrested and extradited to the United States. That changed on July 25, 2024, when he was taken into custody in the US after arriving in New Mexico alongside Joaquín Guzmán López, one of El Chapo’s sons. Zambada later claimed he had been kidnapped and taken there against his will. In August 2025, he pleaded guilty to leading a criminal enterprise. In July 2026, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. After decades on the run, El Mayo’s story ended behind bars in the United States.
