I’ve been thinking about this day for a while now. Especially since the Jantar Mantar protest started 2 months ago.
The detention was actually quite fun and thrilling, especially for an 18yo me. Being dragged into the police van wasn’t all that fun though. Xi Jinping was due to visit Ahmedabad and due to “security concerns” all Tibetan students in Ahmedabad and Vadodara were picked up from their hostels in the dead of the night. It seemed very natural to hit the streets the following day. And so we did; we were immediately picked up. I’m sure this sounds familiar to all those who were at Jantar Mantar yesterday and the day before. If only I knew 12 years ago that the oppressive regime that felt so invincible can be challenged, questioned, and defeated. I cannot express in words how glad 18yo me would feel to see @abhijeetdipke , @neowsibora and the countless other revolutionaries fighting tooth and nail to make this dream a reality. Independent journalists and influencers have filled the cavernous gap that traditional media has left in service of the ruling elite; @meghnads - you give me hope man. And even when the BJP is beaten out of the centre, it will likely recoil back to Gujarat and other such enclaves, but at least now I know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and it isn’t necessarily another train. It feels okay to hope again.
