A mystic artist and her charming wife

crashes the ambient flow and leaves
a restless, queerly festive crowd awkwardly struggling with open-ended silence.

About the event: Artists share video registrations of performances made for live audiences. Offered in a cinema setting, full attention is turned to these residues. We will screen excerpts and edits from submitted videos and discuss the images, traces and choices of documentation together with art historian Barbara Krulik and the artists.
Vanita & Johanna Monk made and performed art, music and literature together for 35 years until Vanita’s death in 2024. Johanna now continues this collaboration beyond the boundary of life, her practice existing on a continuum from past to future, between estate curation and new works rooted in a personal mythology of love, trauma, healing, violence, transformation, lust, enlightenment and death.
