Sometimes helping someone doesn’t mean judging, fixing, teaching, or comforting them right away.

We can reach for the “hat” that feels most natural to us:

🎩 The Judge — “Here’s what you’re doing wrong.”
🎩 The Fixer — “Here’s what you should do.”
🎩 The Educator — “Let me explain why this is happening.”
🎩 The Comforter — “Let’s make this feeling go away.”

And even when our intentions are good, we can accidentally skip the thing the other person needed first:

to feel heard.

Before reaching for a solution, try asking:
“Do you want me to listen, help you think it through, or offer a solution?”

Which hat do you reach for fastest? No judgment. 😊👇

Good intentions can still create distance when we solve a problem the other person has not asked us to solve.
