Anxious at 46 and nobody said the word perimenopause?

A new study from Finland looked at 2,632 women, all age 46. About 13% of them were already in the menopausal transition.

What the researchers found:
About 23% of the women already in the transition reported clinically significant anxiety symptoms, compared with 16% of women the same age who weren't.
Just over 30% reported depressive symptoms, compared with just under 25%.
Both links held up after the team accounted for smoking, alcohol, body weight, and education.

This kind of study shows a link. It doesn't prove the transition caused the symptoms, and it can't tell you what's going on for you.

The lead researcher, Dr. Tiia Saarinen at the University of Oulu, said recognizing psychological symptoms can help women get timely support during menopause.

So if your mood changed in your 40s along with your cycle, that's worth mentioning to your doctor. You're not too young to ask.

Has anyone ever asked you about your mood and your cycle in the same visit? Tell us below 💜
