hello!

this is created to be a clarification on Muse’s stance on generative AI. we are aware a lot of our flyers have been tagged by Meta as being AI generated. they are not. Muse has never and will never post anything AI generated. you can find this disclaimer throughout the descriptions for some of the posts that have been tagged as such, but we need a more permanent and visible notice. generative AI has no place in art, and its use for other everyday tasks is also very much frowned upon by everyone on our executive board. this stance is specifically outlined in our best practices, responsibilities, and expectations document, which every executive board member has access to.

unfortunately, at the moment, there is no way to permanently remove the AI tag from our posts. Meta tags most posts featuring graphics made through Canva or Photoshop (and I’m sure some others…) as AI generated almost automatically. there is lots of human thought and time behind each and every single one of our posts.

obviously, we are very passionate about art. we care deeply about our mission of spreading the freedoms of artistic expression across UAB’s campus and Birmingham. again, generative AI has no place in this mission. furthermore, AI is not welcome for submission to this or any future Muse Art Mart (this week!), and the same goes for any other event hosted by or with Muse featuring artistic submission opportunities.

this announcement is not out of the blue. more and more, AI is forced upon us as students, as artists, and just as humans in general. the name of Meta’s new AI tool was an especially unfortunate coincidence… it can be very difficult and very irritating to experience the rise of harmful effects of artificial intelligence; we definitely understand this. if you are unaware of the harm caused by generative AI, we strongly recommend that you research this.

there is no reason to assume the worst of our team when there are so many factors at hand when a post is tagged as AI content.

thank you! 💗🧑‍🎨🫶

SEE YOU AT ART MART TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
