Art is more than the end product.

Hi, I'm Cedric, a fantasy writer. I am the author of multiple published short stories and two novels. Yes, writing is hard, and like any artistic endeavor worth doing, it shouldn't be any other way.

Art has always been a reflection of the society and time it was created in. Take how children were portrayed in Victorian England, for example. They were often dressed like miniature adults, which tells us something about how childhood was viewed at the time, when children were expected to work, marry young and take on adult responsibilities. Compare that with other periods, where children were painted as these chubby little cherubs, representing innocence, purity and even a connection to the divine. These paintings weren’t created by machines analysing what people looked like. They were created by people, living in those societies, interpreting the world around them through their own experiences and beliefs. And we see the same thing in music, books, film, photography and pretty much every other form of art. It’s not just about what something looked like at a particular point in history. It’s about how people saw the world. And that’s what worries me about AI taking over creative spaces. We risk losing that human perspective. AI can reproduce an image, imitate a style or generate something that looks convincing, but it hasn’t lived through anything. It doesn’t have experiences, memories or a real understanding of the world it’s depicting. It can generate what it thinks art should look like based on patterns, but that’s not the same as a person creating something based on how they actually experience life. Sorry if that was a lot of waffle! I have a masters in Anthropology and a PhD in Medical Anthropology.

Going to challenge you here. If a human being makes something as identical to AI as your example, no one is thinking about the artist's choices, because there aren't any to perceive. Generally, if someone likes AI art, they ARE responding to something human, or novelty. However that doesn't make the human the artist. That depends on the level of involvement the human being had. A prompt isn't enough.

💯💯💯💯💯 Process IS part of the art, the learning and failing and doing and pushing yourself to create IS what makes it art. Ty for this!!!!!! 👏

I agree completely! When I see amazing art, I often find myself thinking “wow, someone actually made that.” I think of the hours of time, the skill, the creativity. AI doesn’t have any of that and is just soulless
