The recorder on Bad Apples started life on an iPhone.
Chris Roe recorded much of the score's recorder writing remotely with Sarah Jeffery (@team_recorder), who sent her parts back from her phone. When it came to the proper session, director Jonatan Etzler (@jonatanetzler) missed something from the demo: the staccato breathiness of the original flute samples.
So the final score is mostly live, with a few of those samples quietly slipped back in.
Paul Saunderson knows the feeling. You spend ages making the demo sound as good as it can, then have to convince the director that replacing it is the whole point.
